Interview about Narnia

The C.S. Lewis classic series of The Chronicles of Narnia is coming to the big screen on December 9th. I suspect this will be a holiday hit, and I look forward to seeing how the Christian symbolism Lewis used gets translated onto the screen.

This interview with Micheal Flaherty of Walden Media covers that very topic.

Walden has information and resources for educators their web site and you can find info at the Internet Movie Database.

This may be a great film to enjoy with your family, to provoke discussions with your students, and to generate discussion about the work of Christ for the world.

Manmaker 2005

Attention all dads!

On October 29th @ 6:00 p.m. Immanuel's young men and their father-figures will be coming together for Manmaker in the ROC. This is a new event, and the objective is to come together, connecting fathers and sons around the question of what it means to be a man in today's society.

We desire that you would see this as an event worthy of your time. We want you to be a part of this event, noting that as a father you have a high calling and you are influencing your son in more ways than perhaps anyone else in the world.

Please make this time a priority to connect with your son! We look for it to be both a fun and valuable time. At 6 we will meet in the welcome center of the ROC for pizza. After that we will play various dodge ball games in the auxilary gym, and then we will move to the Summit to talk about manhood.

Please email nickp (at) ibc-lex.org and let me know that you and your son are coming. We are welcoming students to come with any father-figure in there life, as we recognize that many students' father-figures aren't necessarily their fathers. If you are a father with no son, and you'd like to still be a part of this event, email me and let me know!

10 Ways to Be an All Pro Dad

All Pro Dad is a program of Family First, which is recommended by CPYU. They offer resources for men who want to be better fathers.

In this article, they offer 10 Ways to Be an All Pro Dad. Each item in the list has an article associated with it

I'll take this moment to highlight what they determined is the Number One Way to Be an All Pro Dad: Love your wife.

The Battle Over Gay Teens

This month's issue of Time has a cover story on Gay Teens (Subscription Required). Time points out responses from the left and the right to the increasing number of students who are "coming out".

According to the article, homosexual students are now being offered full scholarships from the Point Foundation. The article goes on to say that nearly 1 in 10 high schools has a Gay Straight Alliance - a club for gay and gay-friendly kids.

The article points to Exodus International and its ministry to youth, Exodus Youth as an example of an evangelical response to gay teens.

I hope that we can instill in our students that the source of truth for our questions about homosexuality should come from God's Word, and that we as Christians should have compassion on homosexuals. Young people, especially struggling with their sexuality certainly don't need to hear taunting about being gay, whether they are the target or not.
